GM is voluntarily recalling approximately 3.64 million 2014-17 model year vehicles in the United States. The sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) in these vehicles, which controls airbag and pretensioners deployment, contains a software defect that may prevent the deployment of frontal airbags and pretensioners in certain rare circumstances when a crash is preceded by a specific event impacting vehicle dynamics.
The recall includes:
- 2014-2017 model year Chevrolet Corvette
- 2014-2016 model year Buick LaCrosse
- 2014-2016 Chevrolet SS
- 2014-2016 Spark EV
- 2014-2017 Trax
- 2014-2017 Caprice PPV
- 2014-2017 Silverado 1500
- 2014-2017 Buick Encore
- 2014-2017 GMC Sierra 1500
- 2015-2017 model year Chevrolet Tahoe
- 2015-201 Suburban
- 2015-201 Silverado HD
- 2015-201 GMC Yukon
- 2015-201 Yukon XL
- 2015-201 Sierra HD
- 2015-201 Cadillac Escalade
- 2015-201 Escalade ESV
GM will notify customers, and dealers will update the software free of charge.
NOTE: You can look up your vehicle identification number (VIN) at either NHTSA or GM websites to see if your vehicle is part of the recall. NHTSA's new search tool lets you enter a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to quickly learn if a specific vehicle has not been repaired as part of a safety recall in the last 15 years.
